Hemp is a natural weed. It outcompetes flora and therefore does not require soil destroying chemical herbicides to encourage growth.
-
Swift growth creates a canopy over the soil, which combined with its deep root system means hemp uses significanctly less water. A staggering 50-80% less water than cotton. Learn how the earths soil erasure is an upcoming global crisis here. Web search 'Save Soil' to learn about this in detail.

Pre-shrunk

Most companies will never pre-shrink their fabrics before constructing the garments. This means that often we buy clothing that doesn't fit us the way it did at purchase, often after a single wash. As companies continuously prioritise their position in the stock market and making more money each quarter of the financial year, simple steps such as pre-washing fabric is gleefully ignored. My fabric will be pre-shrunk so your item stays the same shape even after you have washed it.

Pre-softened

Along with Hemps durability comes a problem. Hemp is not naturally soft when the fabric is first constructed. This gives the fabric character, as the consumer can enjoy the natural breaking in process of the long lasting fabric.

However, since we are all accustomed to the softness of cotton and wool on our skin, suddenly wearing hemp clothing can be uncomfortable.
Or more likely, you will just miss the softness of your cotton clothes. That is why I am currently experimenting with various methods to soften hemp fabric significantly before making the garment. I am confident that my hemp products will have an equivalent level of softness to most cotton fabric you can buy on the market.

This is yet another reason I wouldn't expect stock market brands to adopt hemp fabric any time soon,

All my clothing will be hand tailored. Buying these products will support an independent creator who stands against the very corruption and greed that is ruining our planet and the textile industry.

When buying from independent small businesses, you avoid the horrific exploitation of the less fortunate around the world.
